Well knowing that a 32 SW (that I wouldn't carry) penetrates 15 inches 5 yards away;
A 38 SW with a smokeless powder load would be penetrating a little bit more..
Do you load it with BP?

The safety automatic allows the shooter to load @LL 5.
I heard the trigger is hard on the hammerless by Smith

What do you load it with?
Cause black powder can be anemic with the size of the case.
0.74 grams is the recommended.

I load with trailboss, but I have also loaded some low pressure rounds with other powders that put it in the .380 realm. I do try to stay fairly weak with it to preserve the guns but they were built to be shot, so I shoot them.

The S&W Safety Hammerless break-open revolvers have an excellent DA trigger - the pull is moderately heavy, but has a definite stop point, which can be felt, just before a small final increase in pressure releases the hammer. It permits DA shooting with a final trigger pull very much like a single action revolver - I wish modern revolvers were available with such a DA trigger. The greatest objection to these revolvers in my experience is the very small sights, and a front blade which is short enough that most of the guns shoot very high of POA at usual revolver ranges. The .38 S&W cartridge is no fireball, but is actually a fairly effective SD round, and the Safety Hammerless revolvers are safe to carry, easy to use, accurate and reliable, all of which makes them a decent choice for SD. Other brands of break-open revolvers are less desireable, in my experience, and I'd choose the S&W over any of them.

I don't have the first clue concerning gun laws in France, but the nature of some of your posts leads me to think that you are somehow trying to skirt around the law in some way. Anonymous advice from other countries could be very dangerous.

Are there any gun clubs or other groups in France that could help you in your quest and keep you legal?

The OP is in France? Once upon a time, a black powder era gun (not a repro) shot with black powder was much less regulated than modern handguns. I doubt that gave Msr a free pass to CARRY one. I don't know the current status.

Any road, back when the BSR was a common surplus item and about every gunzine writer was dreaming up a mathematical computation of ballistic effectiveness - "I'm smarter than Gen. Hatcher and my stopping power formula is better." - one writer fed the .38 S&W into all the equations and concluded that the .38 S&W was about as effective as a .380.

Half a hot 44 charge or 45 lc

Yep 40 gr is about 1.4 grams..
But if you put like a minié or anything over 125gr u d have to put less powder..
That's why if we talk about SD I loading it as hot as reasonable:fire::D

You have to be careful about that stuff. There was the guy who got a multipurpose scale set on the wrong units, loaded about a triple charge, and blew up a gun.

I know I know,just BP cap n ball I think in grains..
Any cartridge I think in gram, cause sounds more precise to me..
