Not really identical. It's also about how they shoot, they may have all the same specs, but they shoot very differently.

380 ammo is more expensive, but not twice the price! for example this...http://palmettostatearmory.com/index...7/category/84/

Do you think that if I keep training it will make my 82 year old arthritic joints not bother me anymore?

I was at Cabela's last night and the cheapest .380 range ammo was $19.98 a box. Sorry about the arthritis. I can tell you that my Glock 17 with subsonic 147gr FMJ ammo recoiled less than the Glock 42 I tried a few weeks ago.

They must teach math differently now than when I went to school.
For example this NEW http://www.freedommunitions.com/380-Auto-100-gr-RNFP-New-p/fm380r100n-b0500.htm high quality 380 ammo is 30 cents a round which according to how I was taught math is not twice the price of any new 9mm and is also less expensive than 40, 32 or 45cal ammo.

It is true that 9mm ammo is less expensive than any other center fire ammo, but 380 is not out of line with any of the other center fire ammo.

Looks like it is your turn JDR! Looks like we all get the same warm welcome from the forum rulers I guess. These old boys play rough it seems if you don't align your thinking to their way! I never was a follower so I guess it is time to avoid the hostilities and walk away. If this is the "High Road" I sure as hell don't want to see the low one! LOL!

About a year ago, I bought a Beretta 84FS imported from Israel. I wasn't really in the market for a 380, but the price was right.
After a few trips to the range, I have concluded that the 380, in a platform like the Beretta, is a fine choice for self defense.
I won't be selling my Glock 26, but if my Beretta 84 was the gun at hand, I would not feel under gunned.

Because of the pressures of the 380 it can be fired out of a smaller lighter handgun than the 9mm, but because of the shorter barrels the terminal ballistics of the 380 suffer. The terminal ballistics get much better when firing the 380 from a 4.5" barreled full-sized pistol, but then people think "If I'm going to carry a full-sized gun, I might as well carry a 9mm (or 45 ACP, 40 S&W or whatever).

See, the 380 ACP is in a trick bag.
