I'm wondering if it wouldn't be fun to put a compensator in a commander-sized 1911. Not sure which, maybe something like this one: http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=85455026

I've got this model 1911 http://www.marstar.ca/gf-norinco/1911A1C.shtm and the money I saved initially I'd not mind spending upgrading it.

But I'm still cheap.

What's the best deal for doing this? Get a full 5" barrel and have it threaded myself? Find a proper 4.5" threaded barrel? Use a stock 5.5" threaded barrel? Any other options?

Thanks;
Scott

You can get about any kind of barrel you want from Bar-Sto barrels of Calif. But they are not cheap. A friend of mine got a Bar-Sto extended barrel with a compensator on it for his Colt's Combat Commander. He shot IPSC with it, then changed it over to the standard barrel for his carry pistol.
