not allowed to bring a gun to a school sponsored activity......so the BG shoots everybody...how sad

Uggg....

:banghead: :cuss: In my neck of the woods none the less. When will people learn that gun free zones mean nothing to those that wish to do us harm. Saginaw is most assuredly not one of the better parts of Michigan to say the least.

What makes you think they will learn, or want to learn? Stupidity and denial.

Wow. I live about 1.5 hours away from there.

THis kinda hits close to home for another reason too. I teach percussion for the local high school drumline, and as such, go to football games at the school field. Of course, I have to leave my weapon locked up in my trunk while at the games. I do wonder if there was anyone at this middle school game who had a CCW, but didn't have their weapon on them because the state doesn't trust them in certain areas. I bet it would be a horrible feeling to be only yards away from a shooting maniac, and know that you have to tools, knowledge, and practice to be a BIG help, but can't because the laws are in the hands of paranoid socialists.

There's signs to prevent exactly this thing!

Were the signs written English or just a picture?

From what I've read of the school system in that area, the kids probably couldn't read well enough to understand a sign.

From the above link:
About 100 people were attending the game when the shooting erupted a short distance from the school's football field, where the team was playing Central Middle School, Vanderhaar said.

Does not specifically say if the shooting happened on the school property or not, also does not specify how far a short distance is, could have been on the school property between the football field and the parking lot, or could have been a block away, doesn't say specifically.

The anti's over-react any time a firearm is used, the pro's sometimes over-react any time a shooting happens on/in/near where firearms are not allowed. 100 people in attendance does not sound as big as the headlines made it sound. When I first read this I pictured a stadium filled with thousands of spectators and a shooter running along the sidelines shooting at will, don't know who Will is though. I think I'll wait for more info to come forward.

20 min from my little burg, Saginaw isn't exactly one of the example cities that Michigan has to offer. I don't think the 16 yr old was a student at the middle school, if he was then he's failed a few years. Saginaw is having a problem with gangs if that is an indication of where the problems are.

Where in Saginaw, geographically, is this school located? I spent a few years there, unfortunately, in the 80's when I was a young fellow and went to white pine middle school. Is it anywhere near there? Saginaw made me really miss good ole Carolina. Go Cocks!

Bummer to be injured so seriously so early in life ... I guess this means they better take away the gun of everyone who didn't do it.

It's a good reminder to not get into altercations with anyone. That punk who flips you off in the next car might be willing to go to jail for the rest of his life to make his point to you. Of course if he wants to make that point w/o my doing anything I'd sure appreciate anything that could level the playing field.

When will people learn that gun free zones mean nothing to those that wish to do us harm.

When something like this happens, the natural reaction is to remove the objects involved. Someone was shot, remove the gun. Someone was stabbed, remove the knife.

This type of gut reaction is automatic in just about everybody, and most people never think past that gut reaction. Without some effort, it doesn't usually occur to average people that the problem is likely deeper than it may appear on the surface.

Nobody gives things any thought anymore because the information stream has put everyone into sensory overload. Before they can consider one thing, the next thing comes along. Most people are perpetually kept off balance. After awhile, the mind stops trying and becomes lazy. "Take the gun away from THAT GUY", becomes simply "Take the gun away".

But we are the enlightened, as we choose to not only question how, but also why. We are not impervious to the information stream, but we do put forth the extra effort required to stay on our feet, yeah?

Not to belittle the tragedy, but likewise, when I heard of this even on Fox News radio this morning, I wondered why this was an event worthy of national news coverage. Could it be that the media is interested in alerting the public to the dangers of "gun-free killing zones"? Or, as noted above, it may have only incidentally been connected to the school/game and just be another gang banger crime.
