4 Wal Mart employees fired, what would YOU have done?

why do you get to make that decision for everyone else

I don't get to make the decision for them.
They can drop to their knees and offer him "comfort".
They can buy him a milkshake and drive him to Bermuda.
Most likely they will hide on their knees behind the Depends display

Of course their would not be a United States of America if we were all like those people.

Ahh, not so. If you're the loss-prevention team member who grabbs the thief, and that gun goes off and the hostage is killed, you've already stated that you are ok with that outcome because YOU are fighting 'evil.'

Now, Mr. Hostage probably did NOT want to die, but you've decided that if he must, he must, so long as you don't give up your honor.

If you caused me to be killed to preserve MY honor, I'd be really mad.

If you caused me to be killed to preserve YOUR honor, I'm going to HAUNT your butt something FIERCE!

:neener:

No, I believe that there would not be a USA (at least not the one we know today) if we went guns blazing into every situation...IMO we do that too much anyway.

...forgive the OT post.

:)

BTW

concerning S&T

according to the police on the scene they did the right thing.

according to the former employees, they did not want to allow the guy with the loaded gun to go back into the store with the customers, certainly a reasonable thought

they contained the situation in an isolated room

and let us remember that they are 'loss prevention" (AKA security) not girls scouts

seems like they did pretty well

I think from a purely logistical/tactical point of view, if one somehow trusts the vibe or disclosure of the BG who is saying he "just wants to leave', let him leave.

Obviously, if he does not live up to his word, and or, if one's evaluation of the vibe or of his honor was in error, one would find out as things went from there.

One could always 'rush' him then I suppose, along with how-ever many others who may want to help.

He was not there to rob anyone, he was there to shop lift...and, got caught.

Every one is an individual, BGs included.

He may very well have meant what he said, and, would have followed through peaceably if he had been allowed to leave.

As I pointed out before, shoplifters are caught EVERY day, yet it's EXTREMELY rare that when caught they take a hostage with a gun. When this guy was prosecuted, was he prosecuted for shoplifting, or was he also prosecuted for crimes involving a firearm? That should answer whether or not he was 'simply' a shoplifter.

Three page rule, times two.

It seems pretty apparent to me no one is likely to change their point of view/opinion here, and continuing to flail this particular defunct equine is really not going to do us a lot of good beyond this point.

All I can say is that I hope there are a LOT of people out there who have some sort of legal insurance and a massive umbrella liability insurance policy to go along with their CCW permit.

lpl

To add onto what Lee's saying, if an armed individual- who there is no reason to believe constitutes an ongoing deadly threat- want to leave, you let him. The. End.
