I'm trying to find out what the best brand of .4o cal. S&W rounds on the market for home protection and or target practice. I plan to purchase a PX4 Storm pretty soon so, I could use some good advice or suggestions. Thanks.

For target practice I find Winchester white box from Wal-Mart @ ~$21 per 100 hard to beat. I have heard some folks complain that it is dirty - but it works great in my Beretta 96.
Home defence - I keep some 180gr Federal Hydra-Shok handy.

Finding ammo for plinking is one thing. Self defense ammo is dependent on the surroundings, your abilities, and what the political atmosphere is where you live. In many areas carrying high dollar self defense ammo is tantamount to issuing an invitation for a lawsuit or charges from the DA's office. It also changes according to whether or not you have a CCW, etc. I suggest contacting one of the gun rights orgs and find out specifics for your area.

It's been a long time since I've bought factory ammo for the .40, when I did I loved S&B, with Remington UMC a close second. I never cared for Win white box, It shoots fine, I just preferred other brands. UMC was the hottest ball rounds I could find at the time.

For protection, it's hard to beat the 180gr Winchester Ranger SXT.

And for range ammo, anything you want, really. Georgia Arms is pretty inexpensive, but is great quality I've heard. I personally shoot the cheapest brass I can find.

There was a question about reloading or factory ammo, I should have been more specific, sorry! My question was in reference to factory ammo. Thanks to all for their input, the info. was very helpful.
Thanks again, Bigwill
