.40 S&W powder Suggestion

I am going to start reloading soon for my .40 cal Glock. Probably 135 HP Plinking rounds. What powder would you all recommend for the Glock .40 S & W. I am looking for something I can run through the Lee Auto Disk powder measure, and weigh check it every 5th or 6th load...Thanks for your help!

Power Pistol is what I would recommend. It meters great, doesn't spike pressure with small changes in loading, burns clean and makes plenty of power. It is THE best 40 S&W powder IMO.

I've had pretty good luck with AA#7 with the 155 and up bullets. I've never loded 135s in 40. I like #7 becuse it is bulky enough that you can not double charge and still seat a bullet.

My favorite powder for the .40 S&W right now is Tite-Group. It meters very in my Deluxe Auto-Disk, is low flash, and uses light charge weights, inexpensive, and clean burning making it about the ideal target shooting powder. Before it came out I used Universal. I've tryed many differant powders but kept going back to Universal until I tried Tite-Group.

Only down side is with it's low bulk that you could double or even triple charge a case with Tite-Group, but if you're looking in each case before seating the bullet it will be plainly obvious you did.

Let me be the oddball and recommend VVN340. I use a lee auto disk measure, and the VV measures extremely cleanly and accurately. It is also bulky enough that it fill the case completely using 155 grain rounds...so no chance of a double charge there either. Finally, I really do think it may be one of the cleanest burning powders on the market. Only downside is it's awfuly expensive.

Went to WST about two years and 5000 rounds ago.Burns clean,4.7gr for 155 grain bullet.

I tried a few Winchester powders and had good results with all of them. I liked 231 and WST, but settled on WSF.

Accurate #5 also worked well, but I found alot of talk about the K!b in glocks also talked about Accurate #5. So I went away from it in my Glocks, but I have been using it again in my revolvers.

Looking at my notes, Powder Pistol and AA5 did real well with 165 grn or lighter bullets. Unique seems to work well with 180's. These are slower powders (relatively speaking) and seem to have more tolerance for variations in components.

I tend to avoid the fast powders like bullseye, titegroup, 231 in 40 since the high pressures and fast powders seem to not mix well. If you go for a fast powder like bullseye, keep your brass sorted, watch or overall length carefully and becareful about switching components. It is easy to go from ok to not ok quickly.
