What are my options? Found one, the Fusion Commander Bobtail, but the price isnt nearly right.

Why 40? Have owned a few .45s, like the cartriage. But, IMO, the .40 is a better load. Great compromise between capacity, size and weight of platform, and performance. Also, can fire more .40 for my buck. Contrary to what gun magazines seem to believe, we all cant afford $2500 Les Baer 1911s

So, having said that, why a 1911 Commander sized single stack? I like the platform. Even though it doesnt give me much over a .45 (capacity wise)

Maybe a CZ-40b? It started out life as a joint venture between CZ and Colt to get into the police market back in the 1990's. It is commander sized, with the 1911 grip angle, it can be carried "cocked and locked" or DA/SA but its a 12 or 14 round double stack .40. Below is a link to what the CZ-40B looks like.

I love my Llama (gasp!) .40S&W in the Commander size. The price of about $325 works too! It has the weight of the 1911 to smooth out the recoil and performs flawlessly with all types of ammo. Any Commander 1911 in the .40S&W is a great gun!

Find a shop that has Taurus products and look at the PT 940 , it fits your size requirements and as a bonus has a unique safety that allows it to be Carried in "Condition 1" just like a 1911 or you can carry it like a traditional DA auto with round in chamber and hammer down with safety on or off your choice .

O and just like a 1911 the safety is moved up for on and down for off , unlike other autos like the S&W line .

i am looking for the same, the best thing i have ran across so far is the STI's, and i am also looking at getting when they become avaliable a taurus .40 1911.
