Commander or compact size 1911's with the VBOB type grip cut

I've been seriously looking at purchasing another Commander or smaller sized 1911 for carry. A major reason I let my Sig commander sized C3 go, was indeed the lack of the bobtail, and the printing issue it incurred for most of my dress.

I'm leaning torwards shelling out for the Dan Wesson Valor in .45 with Bobtail. But that's really gonna hurt the wallet the way things are.

I've been trying to find a less expensive option. But to little avail.

Any know of some other good choices?

I had the forerunner of this gun...the 1911 Sc...and was very happy with it. The new owner is even happier than I was.

Mine was very accurate and very nice to carry with the Scadium frame. The model you've linked to is one of the new Enhanced models. The E-series has the optimized extractor which used to only be available on the Performance Center 1911s.

I think it is a good value for a 1911 priced at the lower end of the middle priced 1911 range
 
ColColt you stinker! You drove the price back up! I bet you got it for 1200 something right? lol, I was about to order it and then noticed yesterday the price went up, so someone ordered one the computer had marked down pretty well!

Having a gunsmith fit a Bobtail to any standard geometry 1911 isn't really that expensive of a proposition. They simply use the Ed Brown jig to drill the new retaining pin hole and then file or grind the tail end of the frame to match the Bobbed MSH profile.

If the frame is stainless or scandium, you should be able to have the faired portions touched up with some bead blasting.

I like the origonal Ed Brown Bobbed MSH more than the rounded over profiles.

Nope-Got this one for $1095 with free shipping the other day and hopefully it'll be here about Tuesday after the gun shop receives it and gets it checked in. I'll try and remember to post some pics when I pick it up.. you can be like Jimmy Carter and lust in your heart.:D

I have the Dan Vesson V-Bob and it's a nice pistol. Yesterday I shot the new E-Series Smith 1911SC and it ran fine. Of course, it does recoil a bit more than the all steel version. The most noticeable items that seemed a bit "different" (not necessarily good or bad) is the spacing on the dots on the rear night sight are pretty wide and the notch is a bit narrow. The trigger on the model I shot was a bit gritty with some creep. Also, the checkering in the front strap is not very sharp and the grips are slick.

I also noticed it doesn't take much pressure to move the barrel around during lockup. I didn't have the chance to shoot the gun for groups, but it rocks on a generous sized target at moderate range shooting in warp drive.
 
The trigger on this one couldn't be much more perfect. I'm well pleased with it. The checkering was one area I was concerned about as to whether it would cut into my hand or not...totally unfounded. I've never felt a better pistol in that respect as if feels perfect-no sharp edges either on the front strap or the MSH. Yep, quite pleased with this one.Fit and finish are superb.

They are good looking 1911's to be sure. I really like that bobbed frame and would like it even better if they offered it on a smaller officer carry piece. :D
 
Not in the E-Series, and not with the round butt.

This is true. You can't easily have a Officer's frame bobtailed as the standard frame is using the OACP length MSH in the bobtail conversion. There is no current production MSH of the correct length to fit a OACP frame

You know, I totally overlooked this before. I can't believe S&W would put am extractor on the outside, of all places!!

NOT!! :) Actually, my old 4506(circa 1990) with the external extractor has been the most reliable 45 I've ever had-never any type of failure in feed or extracting. S&W got it right with the external extractor although other manufacturers seemed to have missed something in their attempt.

Recently took the SW1911SC out for a test drive and it did superb with H&G 68 200 gr SWC's. However, I tried some Speer 230 gr GDHP's and it balked on the third magazine full and gave a nose up into the upper part of the barrel hood on the last rouond using the supplied Wilson 47D mags. I think the springs are just a bit weak and have replaced them with a Wolff springs. I'm also going to try the Check-Mate 7 round mags with Wolff 11# springs using this bullet and I think I'll have better luck. It was no fault of the pistol...just the mags. The Tripp Cobra will also be tested with the GD's.

I've got a Sig C3. Little to no printing issues.

I do like the looks of the DW though. Too bad I couldn't find one when I was ready to buy.

I'm totally happy with the Sig.
 
Jeremy Reid does an Extreme Round butt treatment preserving the lines and using the existing MSH. Looks much better IMHO.
