I see mention of Red Dot, Titegroup, and Bullseye and believe these powders burn too fast for .40 SW, producing high pressures. Titegroup is perhaps marginal in a conservative load. Power Pistol, Unique, WSF, W231, Universal Clays, AA#5, et al. are more in the midrange of pistol powders and I believe more suitable for .40 SW. YMMV but this is what I have learned about selecting powders.
For 170 gr lead, the Lee book shows W231 among some other less familiar Winchester numbers. That suggests that powders burning at the midrange rate would be those to consider.
