I've read that Titegroup and .40 with lead bullets may result in excessive pressures.

I'm trying to make IDPA majors.. 165 PF.. or a velocity of 1065+ with West Coast 155gr plated bullets out of a 4" barrel.

Anyone chrono a similar load? Any pressure problems with plated at these velocities. Load / COL??? Just want something safe to start with.

I use 6.3gr of Universal Clays with the same bullet and get 1100fps from a 4.5" barrel. If you find you need more velocity, Power Pistol, Blue Dot, or Longshot are the powders of choice.

I load them with an OAL between 1.135 and 1.140". Keep the OAL as long as possible while still functioning reliably. The shorter you make them, the less room there is for error.

Gary, IDPA doesnt have major and minor power factors. According to the LGB (which I have in front of me) the .40S&W doesnt have to make the 165 power factor. Ya only have to make 125.

Here is the minimum power floor breakdown straight out of the rule book.

SSR = 125
SSP = 125
ESP = 125
CDP = 165

Hope that helps

Very astute... I only shoot CDP and just assumed that everyone else needed to maintain the same floor. That makes my question somewhat moot since loading to 125 should be easy. No worry regarding pressure spikes at that PF.
