I'm considering on a 40S&W semi-auto but not sure whats available. I had 2 of them from S&W and I detested them. Don't like the trigger pul for starters. Had one in 45 and got rid of that one also. Bought a Kimber. Now I own several autos in the 1911 configuration. Here comes the question.

Who makes what in 40 S&W cal. on the 1911 Platform?

A question I have been pondering as of late. And one I can't really answer.

If you're looking for something more compact (as am I) the Springfield EMP looks nice. But it's pricey. Other than that, I don't know.

Para makes a good 40 in a 1911 platform I hear, have no experience with it myself as in my opinion the 40 S&W should have never been invented.

My Springfield Armory 1911 is superb, and they do make models in 40S&W.

If you're not closed to other options, check SIG Sauer. I have 5 in various models and calibers. All are 100% reliable and very accurate.

Also, if you haven't checked out the S&W M&P line you should give it a look. I have 3 and 1 more on the way. Superb pistol.

Dan Wesson. They make a 1911 in .40 and their guns are probably the best factory 1911's without being a custom gun.

Not 1911 based, but..

Wanted a .40 S&W but could not find a CZ75. (I am a CZ fan.) Was at Academy and bought a Stoeger Cougar for $399. This is an amazing pistol for the price! Went back to Academy and also bought the 9mm. This pistol is just as good as my CZ P01.

Check out the CZ40b. It was designed as a joint venture between Colt and CZ. You can carry it cocked and locked or DA/SA. I have one and LOVE it. I have put ~2000 rounds through it and it is flawless.

CZs work good. if you want 1911, then get an STI. 40 cal is pretty much what everyone uses in race guns along with 9 major or 38 super to make major. STI makes lots of reliable guns in 40.

I don't get it.:(

Why put anything other than a .45 in a 1911? I can see the need in small guns like the EMP, but why?

I love the .40, power and weight near the .45 and capacity nearly as good as 9mm, with the recoil of both combined:scrutiny:. But it's a round desighned for compact Glocks and M&P's IMO.

Free market economy. There's an open market there people are filling it I'd buy a Dan Wesson Valor in a heartbeat

New Dan Wessons in 10mm have ramped barrels, so you have a decent variety of aftermarket 40 S&W that a gunsmith could fit. With that combo you'd have plenty of ammo options from 40 S&W FMJ to plink with, to full house 10mm for medium game hunting / contiguous 48 woods carry.

See above. 10mm in a 1911 built for it just rocks. Adding a 40 S&W bbl increases the versatility
