I am considering a s&w model 410 semi-auto in .40 cal which I saw at the local gun shop this week. Don't know much about S&W pistols. Would appreciate opinions for/against. Thank you.

Don't have any experience with the 410. Just wanted to say that I do have the 908 (9mm) and the CS9 (9mm)...and they are great. Those 2 are what I eventually/finally settled on for day to day carry. And I have a lot of others to choose from.

The S&W autoloaders of this type that I own (3913LS) or have owned (5904) have had 100% perfect functioning. This is 95% of what constitutes my idea of a good gun. Almost no one who actually owns them complains about that. The thin, flat grip shape (which can be changed, you are not stuck with it), slide-mounted thumb safeties and magazine safeties are not for everyone. I personally use the safety as a decocker only and do not carry them "on safe," and the mag disconnect does not hurt anything. If you like it, get it. :)

Also, you are not stuck with a 10-round magazine unless you live in an oppressive state. It should take the same magazines as the 4006 et al. However, in .40 you only get one more round.

I am delighted with my 3913LS, BTW. It is accurate, reliable, delightfully light and slim, and is purdy. :D
