May simply have a bad crimp ledge in the die. Eyeball it good after cleaning.

Check inside the rim on the shell holder for a piece of stuck media or packed dirt.

That happens occasionally. And holds the case off-center in the die.

Ok I have been playing around with my Lee case trimmer and I can't get it to trim a case straight to save my life. The piece that holds the brass is evidently not holding it square. I guess I will find another case trimmer which really sucks as I bought all the different calibers I have and the drill conversion. Which case trimmer would anyone recommend I would like it to be able to be run with a drill to as I have quite a bit of .45 and .223 brass to process. I really don't care to much about using it for this .44 but it would be nice to have the option

Lyman universal case trimmer.

Not the lyman universal case trimmer. Mine had problems cutting the mouth square.

Talk to Lee first. Their stuff is not junk, and the CS is not second rate.

laying case on a flat surface and seeing if it stands straight. also if you look at it closely you can see the mouth is wavy, I was just assuming that it was square earlier and was not paying close enough attention i should have caught it earlier.

ok just going through there standard answers on there site and I get this.

The case should square up when you tighten the shell holder and pull the case rim against the lock stud. If it wobbles, look for a burr on the flat surface of the lock stud, inside the shell holder groove, or on the case rim.

Some case wobble is tolerable. The case mouth will always be trimmed square because the case length gauge guides on the inside diameter of the case mouth.

Some wobble can also be caused by the case head not being centered in the shell holder. To minimize this, hold the case and the shell holder simultaneously and spin them both with your cordless drill, gradually tightening your grip on the shell holder.

With practice you will find you can center the case very consistently and quickly.

They claim that it will still trim square even if it is wobbling but I'm not getting that.

Here's a dumb question: does the pilot that you're using fit snugly into the case mouth? Here's another thought: Do you think you might be using too much pressure against the cutterhead? Hey, this one just popped into my head: Is the pilot the right one for that trimmer? I'd think that if the pilot's shank were too small, it would put the pilot off-center when the setscrew is tightened.

I'm very curious to learn what you find out. Please let us know.

The pilot fits extremely snug. I was actually able to get a square case mouth last night. I put the regular handle back on with the pilot then slipped the case one before putting it in the case holder then tightening everything up. Much slower but it worked on the on case I tried try some more when I get the time. Still no official response from Lee but I wasn't expecting it the first day anyway.

I use my Lee trimmer in a drill press with out the shell holder ... I just grip the brass with my fingers and use the drill table for the stop ... be careful that you do not put lots of pressure as it will wear/brad the end of the pilot ... unless your trimmer shaft it out of specs it should cut square using this method ...

AND it is pretty fast way to trim also ...
