I've done a search and didn't run across anything...

Anybody have a load that would work well in a Ruger 96/44 lever carbine?

Readily available powders are Blue Dot, Unique & Bullseye...and bullets are 240gr XTPs.

Thanks!

What kind of loads? The Bullseye could be used for light target loads. The Unique will work well for midrange loads, and the Blue Dot will do OK for 80% or so loads.

You need something like AA #9, H-110/W296, N110 etc for full loads in .44 Mag, especially if you want to utilize the longer carbine barrel.

Yep, you really need a slower powder like one of the ones suggested to get the potential from the caliber. I forgot to mention 2400, which will work well too.

I have been using a Blue Dot load in my 44 Carbine and my two 44 Mag pistols for years now and it has been very successful for me. Load is a Speer240 gr JSP/13.5 gr BD/WLP primers. Not quite a maximum load but comfortable load and cases just drop out of my pistol' s chambers. I use this load since I don't want to stress my 1964 Ruger Carbine. :)

In my Winchester Trapper 44 Mag 16" barrel it likes 23-24 grains of Winchester 296 powder. I've used CCI 350 LPM primers plus have tested WLP primers. All Hornady 240 XTP's.
23 grains of 296 with CCI 350 in 16" barrel--average velocity 1680 fps
24 grains---1711 fps
22.5 a mild load---1627fps
don't reduce Win 296 powder very much. I wouldn't go below 22 grains.
Tested with FC, RP, and Win cases.

I use H110 in my Deerfield and It looks as if the lever gun uses the same barrel with the same twist as the Deerfield so I would go with one from a good manual.
