44 special powder ?

I've not noticed undue smoke with Unique... but the cases seem to be a bit more sooty. However, shooting isn't a clean hands affair.

and reduce my unique charge to around 6.0.

If you think Unique is smoky at 7.5grn, you won't like 6grn...

FWIW, I used TiteGroup in the .44SPC when I had one... it worked pretty well, it just runs hot, as you probably know. FWIW #2, if you are shooting cast, I probably would stray away from TiteGroup... unless you are shooting outside with the wind at your back.

I better rethink. I used I 2400 in both 357 and 44 mag. I use closer to 20 in 44 mag.

If I had 2400, I would probably have tried it in the .44SPC... I think it would work pretty well, and the recoil impulse would likely be less than the same velocity using Unique. I recently shot some .41's in my 4" Smiths... the 'midrange' load of Unique whacked me hand harder than the 'Magnum' loads of IMR4227, which is similar to 2400. You could go a little higher on the load (velocity-wise...) and have a better shooting load than a lesser load of Unique.

I haven’t seen - nor heard about - 700X being available in almost two years but it still on Hodgdon’s site as a current offering; it’s also still out of stock.
Pshaw I have a receipt from only 18 months ago! (Hodgdon direct) And yeah it was $26+ship

(I thought it was only 9 months ago until I checked the receipt. Haven't opened the bottle not being sure if I'd find more and not interested on loading only 12oz worth of 45, but it's a great 45 auto target powder and I'd expect work well for 44spl too)
