I have a T/C Encore with the 20" Katahdin barrel in 45-70. This being a single shot do you think it's necessary to still crimp? I assume the only thing it could hurt is with powder ignition. The reason I ask is I feel like the heavy crimp I was using whenever I had a guide gun really cut down on case life.

I certainly don't think you need a heavy crimp in a single shot. Many will say you need none at all but as you touched on I like some crimp for positive ignition / an even powder burn in my Handi rifle.

I agree there is no need for a heavy crimp on a round for use in a single-shot rifle.

The only need for one is for good powder ignition.

I'd suggest you do some load testing with crimped & un-crimped, and see if it makes any difference in accuracy with your powder & your load.

I agree, only 3 rounds of each sent over a chrono will tell you everything you need to know.
