Hello, looking for a good powder and bullet for reloading my Marlin 1895ss 45/70. I want to use 300gr bullets if I can ever find any. This will be my deer rifle this coming season so I wanted to get a good load worked up. My Marlin has the 22" barrel. If you want to share the load your using feel free.thanks

4198 is good stuff, but use what you got because powder is not really available.

IMR4198 or IMR3031, or their equivalents... something in the IMR3031 range will launch that 300grn bullet with plenty of authority.

Equivalents would be H322, RL7, maybe RL10x.

Reloader 7 works great with 350 grain Hornady Interlock and 405 grain Woodleigh Bonded Weldcore bullets out of my Marlin 22” 1895.

I only have a loading for the 405 lead epoxy coated bullets from ACME. 44.3 grains of 2015BR or 2015 now and I get great accuracy. The epoxy coated bullets are about 28 cents a piece thereabouts and available still at ACME in 100 count lots.

IMR 4198 is my go to powder for .45-70. I've also had good results with 3031. For comfortable, all day shooting it's hard to beat Unique.

Here's some published load data specifically for the Marlin 1895 with the 300 gr. bullet and and 4198.

IMR 4198 using Hodgdon levergun data and a 300gr Hornady HP shoots really well in my Marlin 22''.
