Dave DeLaurant, also had a #3 Ruger carbine in .45-70. Between the short, falling block action, and the 20" barrel, it was so light and handy.
It also like to kick my brains out; never did find a soft enough load (used kapok and all sorts of stuff to fill up the gigantic case, while keeping the charge down). This was before Trailboss, which is now my go-to for .45 Colt.
It no doubt would have solved the problem with that long departed gun.
Haven't checked the manuals; is Trailboss good in Trapdoors?
