I know it is me, but over here in my neck of woods I noticed that the people who state the .45 ACP is superior to the 9x19 are usually the same who say 223 is a much superior round to 7.62x39. Usually our discussions go like this (compiled from a few such events):
They: 45 caliber is a man caliber. It is the only round guaranteed to kill someone with one round, which is why the 1911 only needs 7 rounds while a 9 needs 15 or more. Nines are girly rounds: all they do is annoy the other guy. Bigger is *always* better.
Me: I see. So, using the same argument, 7.62x39 must be a better caliber than 223 because it is much larger. Right?
They: Of course not. The 223 is clearly much better than the 7.62x39. It is a lighter round so you can carry much more ammo with you. And if you are facing an enemy, he who can fire more rounds wins; that has been proven beyond the shadow of doubt!
Me: I see. If we take that same argument to handguns, you are therefore making a case for the 9mm.
Them: What are you smoking, hipster? 9mm is useless! You might as well have a peashooter. In the stopping power game, 45 is the king! It's all about stopping power! Your girl nine cannot stop a bad guy on PCP. Your 15 rounds of nine would not even slow him down, but the might 45 will drop him dead every time with one single round. Size matters!

Them: Is this too complicate to your small mind, pinko? 223 is a precision round: because of its low recoil, you can hit someone right on his nose if you want from a mile with 223. With 7.62x39 you are lucky if you can hit the wall of barn from inside.
Me: so low recoil leads to shot placement and shot placement is what matters. Wouldn't that then mean 9mm is better than 45?
