When I first got into guns, I had a great mentor (Azrael256). I told myself that I'd only buy guns in very common calibers (Read: Modern military calibers). One of the main reasons for doing this is that ammo would be cheap, easy to find, and there'd be several guns chambered for 'em. I told myself that I'd only buy guns chambered in .22lr, .223, .308, 12ga, 9mm, and .45 ACP (and .50 BMG for when I win the lottery).

However, all the guns I have are chambered in the following: .22, 7.62x39, 6.5x55 Swede, .40S&W, and .380 ACP. Maybe two outta three ain't bad, but ONE out of FIVE? :banghead: And no two in the same caliber! :fire:

What's more is I have 80 rounds of .223, 50 rounds of .45ACP, and ~90 rounds of .32ACP and I have never, ever owned a gun in those calibers! And what's worse is... I really like every single gun I own. What I have now I will never let go. Ever. No matter how annoying it is that 6.5x55 Swede, .40 S&W and .380 are more expensive than .308, .45, and 9mm.

Anybody else have this "problem"?

And you know what really takes the cake? I'm getting a bug for a particular 1911... but it's chambered in .38 Super. :banghead: :cuss: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Well, you sound like a prime candidate for reloading! C'mon man, it's a call for help. It's the only way out.

I have the same problem.I always walk into the gunshop with a very clear idea of what I am looking for. Every single time I end up finding something else that calls my name instead, usually something used at a great price. I wind up with some neat stuff because of this, but I gave up on having anything resembling an organized (or even logical) selection of calibers at my disposal.

You know, I sometimes really wonder if I'd be happy with a S&W 317 .22, a Ruger 10/22, an AR-15, a SAR-1, an M1A, a 1911, and a Glock 17 (first or second gen. of course). Maybe a Colt 1903 for CCW and a Remington 870 too.

Then I take a cold shower and realize how absolutely boring that would be. :)

Once you have done this (read - bought or aquired ammo of cals you have no gun for) - it's ...

TOO LATE!! :D :neener: :p

The die is cast - the stage is set - it will only get worse. Ultimately when you can claim ''ol' phart'' status then, perhaps - you might start culling the herd. I need to - just ain't well - not quite got a round to it!

Yet! :p

I made a decision to limit calibers up front, and have more-or-less kept by it.

I have .22, .38/.357, 9mm and .45.
I'm a bit embarrassed to have both .308 and .30-06 but I just couldn't see getting a bastard M1, so I compromised on that score.

This means I only have about 15,000 rounds of ammo in the house at any one given time and can still shoot anything in the safe.

Of course, the lure of the shotgun and SAA haven't caught up to me yet.
