Alright, this has sort of been talked about before, but the old threads didn't really answer the question in detail.

I reload for the .45 acp and I am particularly fond of Winchester large primers because darn it, I just don't want to stock two types of primers.

However there doesn't seem to be much data for the .45 using the WLP, at least not in any of the books I have.

What is a safe method for using data that doesn't use the same primers as what you want to load? For instance if a max load is 6 grains of abc powder with CCI large pistol primers... what would be a safe charge with WLPs?

Any help would be appreciated... because I; like many, just don't want to blow myself up.

The textbook answer is to go back to 5.4 and "work up" for any change in components.

If were not the maximum, frankly, I would just load and shoot.

That's what I expected and frankly that works for me. I usually just don't mess about with max loads anyhow. Thanks for the quick response Jim, much obliged.

Anything from starting loads to mid-loads and you have no problem. At max loads I would not go there until I had started at the begining and worked up to what I wanted...I use both CCI, WLP and Rem 2 1/2 LP primers. I have found that CCI is the less powerful of the three.

I agree with Bushmaster in that CCI is slightly milder than RP 2 1/2 or WLP. I have got 10-40 fps less with CCI when testing identical loads using all three primers. You'd have to test your powder, bullet, cases, to see which would be best for accuracy and consistency with your components and gun. My limited test was only with one powder and one bullet type and your results using different components or gun may differ. CCI is a good large pistol primer though and I do use it in some of my loads. Just happens that CCI is most plentiful in my area followed by RP primers.

I've found the simular differences in fps between the different primers...Good way to adjust a load using the different primers...
