I `ve noticed that 45ACP ammo is really going up in price. Am i correct? I realize that all ammo is going up, but 45 especially. I also notice that rather than standard FMJ ,there is a lot of hollow point high performance for sale. Could it be that since there are no standard target round available the suppliers are dipping into their inventories of high performance ammo? It seems such a waste of money to buy 20, or 50 rounds of self defense ,or hunting ammo for target shooting. I notice this trend in all the calibers. Am I wrong?

I've seen it too. Its just part of the ammo shortage. It will eventually level out and target ammo will start showing up again. Probably not for a while though.

I think it's more a matter of the less expensive target FMJ is just selling out faster than the more expensive JHP self defense ammo. It's not like any manufacturers have any back stock to "dip into" these days.

Looks to me that if a fellow has ever thought about reloading, now would be a good time to start...!

Actually no, it was a good time to start a year ago. But now the components, supplies, and even presses are as hard to find as ammo.

This sentiment seems to be causing more problems than anything in the reloading community. Apparently many people believe that if there is no loaded ammo on the shelf then there must be components laying around in bundles.

Perhaps now would be a good time to consider black powder...in a flintlock.

Rocks and a sling is where the current administration would like to see us be.

But, they would like to let you keep the slings, to tie your pants up.

But no rocks for you buddy!!!!

You might shoot somebodys eye out!
And they might be in high ranking in the Party.

Target ammo has always sold faster than defense/hunting ammo because of price. Even when hard up for ammo, many people are still passing on the super expensive ammo just to shoot paper targets with.

It's not just the 45 ACP factory ammo, it's also the once fired range brass that also seems to be available, but at a higher price than any other pistol caliber.

My LGS is even having a problem getting the plastic MTM ammo boxes, in any caliber.

That was an advantage of being a long time shooter with a variety of firearms. If you couldnt find one chambering of ammo, you could go with another. But now, most ammo seems to be in short supply.

If/when that situation will change ? Who knows. In the past there was increased buying by the public around shootings and elections - - - but then again, the DHS wasn't ordering billions of rounds of ammo. Enough for a dozen wars.

Everything has dried up. Loaded ammo, primers, powder, brass, bullets, and reloading equipment is all sold out in stores and on backorder or unavailable for backorder on websites.

Even cheap spam cans of old Chinese crap 7.62x39 is $300+ that is outrageous. Panic buyers and hoarders are causing the problem. I live in the country were you usually could hear someone shooting every day or so, but it is quite around my house since November. People who have ammo ain't shooting, and everyone is buying it up as fast as it gets delivered or before. I even heard one guy that hooked up with a guy to buy some ammo at an inflated price. Well turns out the guy he was buying it from worked at Walmart and was buying it before it got on the shelves and then gouging people with his prices. The guy backed out of the deal, and said he wasn't gonna add to the problem by buying from him.

I ain't blaming anyone ,if you need ammo buy it, if you don't need it , don't buy it, and maybe this problem will heal faster that way.

Nah ... way too Biblical for the elitists in charge. They would more likely prefer just rocks - with rounded edges and no sharp corners, of course.

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed the price of rocks going way up the last couple of months?

45 ACP Cost

Code:
All of the popular calibers are going up in price. It is called "Supply & Demand.
That is why I started handload,so I could afford to shoot the 45ACP as much as I like.

45 ACP has always been on the pricey side unless you happened to hit a good sale on CCI Blazer or some Russian ammo. I always found once fired cases to be be plentiful where I shoot so started reloading for that caliber using cast lead commercial bullets. I shoot a S&W model 625 that loves lead bullets. My price for shooting these home assembled rounds is pretty low.

Last saturday at the nearby Sporting goods store they
were out of .22 LR 9mm Luger, 5.56/7.62 as well as .22-250
and .243 Win. but they had some .45 ACP Blazer so
I got two boxes at $20.20 Then at the Range ( Lewiston ID )
I got a box of Fed Amer Eagle 9mm Luger for $20.70 first
time I found .45 ACP cheaper than 9mm although different
sellers/sources.
