45 ACP question

I don't belive there is a bad time to start reloading. Reloading will always be cheaper than factory and gaining knowledge in this sport is always better "sooner than later." Get a signle stage press and some loading dies and books. It doesn't take a big investment to get started. I agree, stop buying those expensive 20 round packs.........

Right now, for some calibers, those expensive 20 round packs are the only way to get brass. And primers for that matter. And in some cases, powder. Seems counterproductive to buy loaded ammo and deconstruct it just for the fun of putting it back together. ;)

I also use a 625, and have found that .45GAP works very well. At my usual range, I picked up close to 2K of GAP brass last year, and it seems very good. Although it uses mostly SP primers, that is not an issue as you only need to switch over the primer system if you reload. Cast 200 LSW loads are very accurate and a lot cheaper than expensive jacketed. Also consider plated bullets; my 625 loves those as well.

Yes, and reloaders are at the bottom of the food chain to get more primers, just for example.

Sure, but rather than scrounging for a box of 50 factory ammo, we're trying to find another brick of a thousand primers to supplement the 700 rounds we already have loaded sitting in the closet.:neener:

I just bought the 1st and last 1000 box of LP primers I've found.. $50.. Now to find some SP primers.. and some powder.. well the powder I use..

It's as tough as finding loaded ammo.. Let's hope they catch up soon.

Ive recently got into reloading. My current cost per box of 50 45ACP is about $7.50. But Ive been picking up range brass and save it up. I will say that 45 has been on the shelf around here. Not everywhere but you can find it for sure. Ive seen it in the Freedom muntions store front here recently for $23 a box I think it was.

I was fortunate. A friend called and told me that a WalMart got a load of 1000 boxes of45 acp and 9mm. A friend had called him. It was Partizan (PPU) from Serbia and sold for 19.84 for a box of 50 230 gr fmj. After dinner that night I bought 3 boxes (the daily limit). I heard two more calls for the ammo key before I left the store. This may have been an anomaly within WalMart's distribution system but a few folks got some. I added to my stash and have about 600 rounds of 45 but I like to replace them as I shoot them and this has been tough. Still no 22LR though.

I'm not sure if someone has said this; but with talk about limiting magazine capacity nationally, as well as at the state level, I'd imagine that the demand for .45acp could be increasing more rapidly than the demand for other cartridges. 1911s only carry 7 or 8 rounds. Even most full-sized polymer pistols only have a 10-round capacity for .45acp. If I had a choice between 10 rounds of .45 or 10 rounds of 9mm (versus 15 or 17), then I'd take the .45 just about every time. However, if it's 10 rounds of .45 versus 15-17 rounds of .40 or 9mm, I'd probably lean the other way.
