I am looking for a new CCW, and I'm wondering what .45 Concealed Carry Weapon you guys and gals carry. I'm strongly considering a Glock 36 and the XD45 3.8. I would like to hear what you carry and why! Thanks a bunch!

My go to CCW in .45 is a Wilson Combat CQB Compact finished in Robar NP3. By far the best gun I've handled, shot or owned. I will never part with it. It's accurate, reliable, runs smooth as silk, feeds fires and ejects anything I put in it and is a breeze to carry. It is also the gun I am most comfortable with.

I normally carry a 9mm (Ruger SR9c) but when the mood hits me I'll carry my Sig P220 in a crossbreed supertuck. Works really well but I need a bit more of a cover garment than with the Ruger (usually a button up shirt untucked will do just fine for me with the larger guns).

I'm thinking of switching over to a 1911 once I can get some range time on one again.

The PT145 makes a great CCW. Light weight with 10+1. If you are going to check out the suggestions, throw this one in the mix.

XD 45 compact, or when it's cold outside I can sometimes get away with a full size 5'' XD.

I have found that I can conceal a 1911 better than any double stack pistol, regardless if it is as "compact" as the Glock 36. With a good holster an gun belt, you don't notice the weight either.

I am no 45 expert but I have a few, got the 45 bug about 8 years ago :)

I have a Lightweight Colt Officers Model that I bought for $500 used that I love. As soon as I bought it, I stopped carrying anything else regularly for years. Before that I regularly carried a S&W 1911 SC Commander length +-$725. If the 1911 pattern isn't your style, my first 45, the Taurus Millennium Pro for around $325 gives you 10+ 1 rounds in a small and reliable package. Kinda feels like a Glock to me.

I feel very safe with any of those weapons :) At 5'6" and 160lbs I can conceal any of these guns without much trouble.

Wonder how much a .45 weighs compared to 9 or 40?
Wonder if the 9 or 40 are easy to conceal compared to 45.
Wonder if it is cheaper to practice with a 9 or 40 compared to 45?

If you like your 45, then carry it.

My 45 stays in the safe, until I go to the range.

I carry a G36 in a MTAC holster. It's rugged, doesn't rust when soaked
with sweat and I don't care when it gets worn or banged up.
It's fairly low priced and easy to replace if something should happen
to it. I wouldn't want to carry one of my "good" guns on a daily
basis.

I've been thinking about adding a 45 to my carry rotation too. Right now it's just the SR9c, SW 642 and KT P3AT. Been leaning towards either G30, G36 PT145, PT745, CW45 or one of the carry 1911's. I have to say I always kinda put down Taurus without any real reasons, but I really do like the PT145 and PT745. Really nice size, capacity for the price. I'm kinda leaning towards one of them.

PT 145 can't be beat at the price and size IMHO. I never intended on buying it and just happened to stumble onto one a new one at a gun shop and bought it on a whim. I worked P/T in a local department and discovered I could actually carry it in an ankle holster, not bad for a double stack 45. I was bored one day and ran little polishing compound on the slide and now it's even got some BLING! :)

Gun is really a rock solid performer that isn't finicky with ammo..it just works. Only reason it doesn't see more carry time is that I fell for 1911 style guns. If you get one just Locktite the little nut on the end of the guide rod, my Brother was shooting mine and lost it, now I need a nut. Other than that I have no complaints.

HK45C. Fits my hand well. Recoil is softest felt recoil of any .45 I have shot. Accurate. Ultra reliable. Easy to clean and maintain. It's an HK.

I'm going to try a Colt Lightweight Commander to fill this niche. I think it will be a good choice.

Might want to look at second hand gen 3 S&W or new M&P platform in compact version.

1.) Glock 30. If you think you can conceal it well, nothing beats this. I like it better than the small 1911s and better than the XD.

2.) Taurus PT145. If the Glock is a little too big, go this route. You maintain 10+1 capabilities in a (mostly) smaller frame.

3.) Glock 36. After the first two, you're sacraficing 10+1 for 6+1. If those are too big, try this one next. It's thinner and shorter than the PT, but the same length of the G30.

4.) Kahr CW45/P45. These two models are ABOUT the same size, with the P45 being the pricier of the two. The length of the PT, but shorter, thinner, and lighter.

5.) Kahr PM45. This is quite easily the smallest of the bunch and, as such, only has a 5+1 capability.

I guess it's hard to recommend when we don't know what exactly he means by CCW. I'm assuming that since he said G36 and XDM 3.8, he wants/needs smaller than full-sized. I know some who refer to CCW as ANY gun that will fit in a holster, completely unconcerned with size. Then, I've met some who mean something that fits into their pocket.

I usually CC a Glock 22 and hide it well. I've never had anyone metion anything or any stores give me problems, etc, and I'm in a relatively gun-unfriendly area. However, I can see some jobs requiring a person to go much smaller in order to stay armed and also not be seen and know people with these jobs. Concealing a full-size 1911 is NOT realistic for some, plain and simple.
