I want to hear about your Experience with the Grand old 1800s 45 Colt and what you have hunted with it. Do ya reload for it? Was it moderate, warm or hot loaded…. lead or jacketed. How far and results.
I’m planning to take my Ruger old Army with a 45 Colt cylinder hunting… and I want some knowledge. I’ll be using a cast of approximately 255 grain and approximately 850 Fps. I’ve read this has stopped Horses, let alone deer. I’m proficient at 100yards with my 44 magnums…. Yet I’d stay around 50 or less yards with the Old Colt. A Thicket with a tree stand in the middle of many trails ,provides just the rite spot for the Shorter distance hunting.
So let’s hear it- I’m Ordering my 45 colt cylinder soon, Have Dies, Mold and will do a good bit of practical field shooting prior to a hunt… Animal deserves that. My 16” Jm Marlin 45 Colt will only be for the longer shot hunting area.
Just something about a shorter 5.5” barrel Handgun, a Knife and Knowledge knocking down a Deer ethically. That sounds like a excellent hunt.
