You shouldn't need either for a .45 carbine, unless it's a SBR. I can't imagine there being much flash left after 16 inches of barrel, and I doubt a muzzle brake will do anything at all - there isn't enough powder or powder velocity, especially in relation to the weight of the bullet.
Just curious, what's your project, and why does it need a flash suppressor or muzzle brake?
I have a Marlin Camp .45 I would like to have one on. I have used some slower-burning powders than the standard pistol loads, there is some flash associated with and additional recoil. I use the 21 lb spring.
smith enterprises makes a vortex for the 45. much as i love the 223 version on my AR, i accidentally laughed out loud at them a little bit when they told me the price. i couldn't help it.
