hello,
can you safely use .45ACP Load Data to load .45 Auto Rim?
they use essentially the same case just one is rimmed and the other isn't, they also use the same sized round.

Here's a nice thread on 45 Auto Rim.

And another on this forum from 2006

The only thing I see in Quickload is that the case is bigger (29g H20 compared to 25g H2O for 45ACP) and the cartridge is supposed to be stronger, although Quickload says the max pressure rating is lower. That may be done because of the original intent of shooting soft lead bullets in the 45 AR.

To make sure of the volume difference, weigh an empty case of each, fill them with water and subtract the dry weight.

I have an S&W 25-2 from 1972 I bought in 2002.

It should shoot 45acp
But can only shoot 45 auto rim
It's firing pin strikes only go half way to 45acp

Half a 45acp, philosophically,
Must ipso facto half not be.
But half a 45acp has got to be
Vis a vis it's entity.
-d'you see?
But can a 45acp be said to be
Or not to be an entire 45acp,
When
Half the 45acp is not a 45acp,
Due to some ancient injury.

What am I seing? Is there no shoulder in the chamber for the .45 ACP cartridge to headspace on the case mouth, so the cartridge slips forward til the bullet protrudes from the cylinder, binding the ccw S&W cylinder?

The problem is, SAAMI pressure spec for the .45 AR is only 15,000 CUP, in difference to the nearly 100 year old Colt & S&W 1917 revolvers chambered for them..

The spec for .45 ACP is 21,000 PSI.

In a modern guns, the .45 AR can be loaded to the same pressure as the .45 ACP.

The same S&W Model 25 and 625 are also chambered in .45 Colt, and can handle 23,000 PSI.

I have always treated them as the same as far as load data in modern guns go.

But, and this is a BIG but.

I don't load to bleeding edge Max pressure in either one.

I do not use AR brass, I use moon clips and any 45 ACP I have loaded can go in my 625.

I saw an old S&W 25-2 on a forum for $360 and bought it.
It would almost never set off 45acp.
No brand of moon clip is thick enough.
Maybe the chambers were bored too deep.

Clark Custom Guns [no relation] for over 15 years has been reaming out 25-2 to 460 Rowland, so they can take a lot of pressure with chamber walls 0.061" thick, or that service would have ended.

I solved MY problem by just shooting 45 Auto rim.
I could go to a longer over all length that 1.275", as I did not have to fit in a 45acp magazine, just the very long cylinder.

Some of the 625s when they were first brought out were not bored to headspace on the cartridge mouth. American Handgunner ran an article about the poor quality of their test gun and caught a lot of flack on it but it was true. I have one I bought in the 90s that works fine with either moon clips, auto rim or just plain acps.
The chamber depth has no effect on the primer strike if you are using moon clips, or half moons. If there is a problem using rimmed ammo or moon clips it is a headspace issue. Perhaps the cylinder is faced off too far, or even the firing pin might be short.

"... use .45ACP Load Data to load .45 Auto Rim..." Yep. Same thing. Only difference is the rim. Cartridge drawings are here. http://stevespages.com/page8d.htm
"...No brand of moon clip is thick enough..." Moon clips do not take the place of a rim. They just hold the cartridge's in place.

as my 1 year old granddaughter likes venison.
Talk about starting 'em young...good job.

You'll have her loading her own ammo soon, and shooting her own deer before you know it!

Carrying on all aspects of the tradition...that's what it's all about.

I got the whole above yearling mule doe turned into snack sticks.
I cut off pieces the size of a pea, so she can't choke on them.
At 18 months it is one word sentences.
She sees me, and says, "meat".
That means she wants venison snack sticks.
I pick her up and she says, "cut".
