i was talking to a friend tonight about the portland show (ths wkend)
and we got on the subject of the lugers made for the original trials back in 08?...
he has actually had the chance to handle and inspect #2 gun made for the trials...
he said it was way different from the martz? lugers in that it was much heavier and clumsy in comparison to the 9s and 30s...
he has lugers and 96s up the wazoo so he should know...
any way it got me wondering again what would have happened if we'd chosen the luger or the savage over the 1911 design ?
where would we be today ?
i know 1911tuner will have some ideas...
post em if you got em...

If the Luger had defeated the 1911 in the trials of that same year there's no way it would have remained the US sidearm for long, certainly not until the mid-1980s! WWI would have pointed out weaknesses and a better gun would have come along.

Sure would be fun to handle ol' #2 though!
