The 44 Magnum Tracker will be available in the summer of 04, according to the Taurus website, and I am looking forward to that offering. I see it as a great (hot) 44 Special with the capability of 44 Mag loads, much like the Model 19 S&W (practice with 38's and shoot a frew 357's) was presented when new.
I have both a 2" and a 4" Tracker in 45ACP, as well as a 4" 357, and they are all great guns. I have not tried any "hot" loads in the 45's, but I am very happy with the performance with any number of commercial 45ACP loads.
IF I wanted to try 45 Super, I would work up to it very slowly using good reloading technique and watching for signs of excessive pressure. The proper brass, and small increases in powder quantitiy with comparative measuring of brass and examination of primer pockets, etc. I certainly would not use commercial (or full power handloads) in 45 Super and try it in the gun. I think the gun would show increased wear very quickly if fed a steady diet of such fare, even if it proved to be safe.
If anyone has tried "hot" 45 ACP or 45 Super loads in a Tracker, I would be very interested in hearing about those experiences. If it is safe, occaisional use of such ammo would increase the versatility of a Tracker, but even if such use is never in the future of my Trackers, I still find them to be very useful and a lot of fun to shoot.
