Well its soon comming to that time again. Thats right, time for a new toy.

I have a S&W 9mm SIGMA & a SA XD-40. Now im in the market for a 45.

What is a decent 45 ???
Price range $400-$800

I know you will see lots of recommendations from people for their favorite 45s. I'm like you, I've shot a lot of 9mm/38spl/357mag, then recently decided to go for a big bore. My first is a Ruger P90. I've owned Rugers in 9mm before and love them. They fit my hand great, they're dead reliable and shoot all loads. I got my slightly used P90 for about $300. Because it is a large gun recoil is (surprisingly) mild, but isn't very suitable for concealed carry.

I just ordered a new Cobra Patriot 45 for about $250 including shipping. It is about the smallest 45 on the market and (I hope) small enough for pocket carry. It's supposed to be reliable and well-designed.

how about a Springfield Armory 1911? the SA MilSpec M1911A1 is a good buy at about $650...

then there's Glocks, HK USP(used - they go for about $700 new)...

Get what ever fits your hand but I'd go CPO Sig 220.

It's a used gun but checked over at SIG before being re-sold.

I own a 226 like that and she's a joy already broken in before I got her. :D

Rubzerk,

+1 for the Ruger P90, absolutely reliable and accurate.

No matter what Lou22 says, I carry mine all day every day.

The new Ruger P345 is nice too.

Next choice would be a SA mil spec.

Then a Taurus Millenium pro PT145.

Go look at some. Then go to a range and rent one of each you are interrested in and put a box of shells through them. Buy the one you shoot the best.

Good Luck, let us know what you decide.

I just bought a used Sig P245. I put about 80ish rounds through over the weekend, and loved every shot. The P245 is basically a chopped P220 (about 1 inch of the barrel, and an inch off the grip). I paid $525+tax ($567 OTD). A used P220 of equivalent quality should be a bit less. New the P245 goes for $700-750.

I'm about to place an order for a holster for the P245 from www.hbeleatherworks.com and once I get that I'll be using it for my daily carry gun.

Edit: The main reason I went with the P245 is that it fits MY hands better than any other gun I've ever picked up.

I have the Springfield GI (about $400), the CZ 97B (about $525) and the Glock 21 (about $550) (all prices "new" and at large retailers in our area).

I find that I enjoy shooting the CZ more than the others as I am much more accurate with it; the Springer GI has miniscule sights, and the Glock, well as great as it is, the pzazz factor is missing. So, if was taking to the range, the CZ comes along; for self defense, I like the 13 round capacity and reliability of the Glock; for nostalgia the Springer.

Heck, get all three.

Since your first two choices were from the "great guns for the money" side of the market, why not continue the trend and try an RIA (~$300) or an Armscor 45 (~$350). RIA if you want a basic "GI" style 1911, the Armscor if you want "Springfield Loaded" creature comforts. Both are made by Armscor, as are the Charles Daly guns (assembled by KBI from Armscor parts) and might be a bit easier to find.

You can read a lot about Armcor guns at: www.1911forum.com under the manufactures/other catagory, and at: http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=17

Use the search, I've posted my experiences with Armscor and Daly guns here in the past.

- Kimber Custom II
- Used Kimber Series I
- SIG Sauer P220
- SIG P245
- Slightly fondled HK USP .45

In that case, I'll say it again, Ruger P90.

You will not find a more dependable .45 for any amount of money. Mine has been 100% reliable with absolutely no bobbles. I have tried to make it hiccup. I have deliverately limp wristed it, no problem. I have fired it gangster style, no problem. I have fired it holding it upside down with my little finger on the trigger- that's right- no freaking problem and accurate too. I have fired it canted at every angle from upright to upside down and not had a bit of a problem. Strong hand, weak hand, no difference.

If you want a 100% reliable sd ccw, you can't do better.

If your life depends on it, it doesn't matter as much what it looks like, but a whole lot on how it works. The P90 works, first time, every time.

But don't choose a gun because someone on a computer forum told you it was good. There are many that fit your needs, go rent some and try them, buy the one you shoot the best.
