4513 grips

I recently purchased a mint S&W 4513 and love it. It's an older version using the 6-round magazines and the 'cut out' grip frame. I wanted to install Hogue grips on it fully aware I'd have to trim off the cut out area on the frame. No problem. I purchased the grips for a later version (7 round mag) thinking they would work but much to my surprise it seems they are just a bit (maybe 1/8") too short front to rear and they won't 'hook' in place. Anybody else try this??
