Picked up a FA in 454 Casull (7.5") on Saturday and want to work up some weenie loads until I get time to develop some loads that'll do permanent damage to my hands. I was thinking of cast bullets in the 250-255 weight range. Decided against shooting 45 Colt in the gun since the deal included 300 454 Starline cases and would rather stick with the those for the time being. Any help?

"Trail Boss"

You can find load data or use the generic Trail Boss loading info. I have loaded many casull cases with 10gr of trail boss under a 250gr LRN without any trouble myself, but YMMV.

Trail boss is great. I also just load up light 45 colt loads in the casull cases with unique or whatever you have around. Works great.

I second a 90 to 100% (I would go 100%) load density of Trail Boss with a lead bullet of 250 Grs or greater.

Unique will work well. True Blue would be another good one to try.

BE-86 should do very well, although I haven't tried it in anything bigger than a .357 case yet. I need to try it in .45 Colt. I don't have a .454.

I would look for loads using HS6 do a Google on it I will be doing the same thing
In search of a good 100 yard or less
Deer hunting load for my Encore pistol

Use the max charge for a .45 Colt load in the 454 Casull brass and that will produce a safe and light load.

Like ArchAngelCD says, .45 Colt loads in .454 cases. Same as you can do with .38 loads in .357 or .44 Special loads in Magnum cases.
There are a few cast bullet loads on Hodgdon's site, Reloader'sNest and Handloads.com too.

Just load some book .45 Colt loads in your brass. That's going to be about
Like a gallery load. Then work up to a .45 LC+P load then on to full .454 power as you please. LilGun is an excellent powder for full power Casull and .45 LC +P loads. I've also had success with Blue Dot and basicallY any powder that lends itself well to the .44 mag works well for .454 and 460 revolvers.

Just wanted to point out that some powders you can't download good luck with your loads
Even if I were talking about Ruger only loads which are the only 45 Colt loads that use W296/H110 I recommended he use the MAX charge in his 454 Casull brass which would not result in a downloaded charge. But again, I did not mention Ruger only loads. That would not fit with what the OP was looking for.

This is the same recommendation I give when loaders are looking to find data for loading .38 Special loads in .357 Magnum brass. That also works well and is safe.
