I have ordered a new AR in .458 SOCOM and will be reloading for it. While I'm waiting for it to be built I'm going to get the equipment and supplies ordered and on hand.

I have a lot of experience reloading for my pistols and some rifle (.458 Win Mag and .30-30 Win) but the .458 SOCOM will be a completely new beast.

I am going to have a few boxes of factory ammo to break it in with but after that I expect most of my shooting will be reloads. To start with I'll have 100 new cases and after the break-in I'll have some once fired cases.

What little information I've been able to track down points me toward faster powders (some the same as used in the .223/5.56). I will be using jacketed bullets and possibly some Berry's plated.

Does anyone care to offer their favorite powders for the .458 SOCOM?

Any tips on case care?

When reloading for this what do I want to make my top priority?

Any and all help is welcome. :)

My 458 is suppressed so I load mainly heavy bullets and use magnum pistol powders.

jmorris, I have AA #9, 2400, and Blue Dot on hand. Do you use any of those?

Among others I have uses HS-7 and H110, all three of your powders fall inbetween the two so should work fine.

Contact Marty at [email protected] and request a membership. Leave him your information, then watch for an email response.

It might take awhile as he is currently out of the country...and in areas with no internet access, but he WILL get back to you.

We just got 8-10 new members this weekend.
