.45ACP Pocket Gun

Hey guys-

After looking into which carry options work best for me I realize that pocket carry is the most flexible and the way in which I carry that most......

On that note, I am looking for a .45 I can slip into a pocket, I have read about people pocket carrying the Kimber Ultra Carry, Taurus PT145, and the Glock in their pocket but what do you guys think?

I'm not interested in the 45acp wheelguns if I wanted a revolver it would be in .357 mag. Also I know about the Kahr PM line but would really like to have a 45 so thats what I really want to consider right now before I look into lighter options.

So let me know what you guys think, maybe there isnt a good option, as always pictures are always a good thing.

The Glock 30 is a nice handling pistol it is a bit short and fat on the grip but you can reduce it or have it done.

I have only handled the Taurus it seems OK but after having problems and seeing a few others having had problems with a few of their revolvers have steered clear of that brand on their semi autos you may have a different experience as they have improved over the years and its a different type and design.

You may also want to check out the compact Sig 245 as wells as the Glock 36
allot depends on your preferences and hand size.

For me the Glock is a two fingers on the grip handgun with the pinky curled up underneath the magazine.

Also some like the Springfield Micro Compact .45 ACP or the Para Ordnance P-10

AMT also has the backup in .45 ACP it is heavy and has a heavy double action trigger pull , some people do like theirs I found others more to my liking.

Best of luck and as always I suggest renting or borrowing first at a range before spending your money, actual use side by side between different options will tell you more than just holding it.

I don't own one, but a fellow range buddy had a SC HK double stack mag with 10+1 load out, and let me shoot it. I was very impressed with both, the grip, and the accuracy, along with a very controllable recoil for fast follow-up shots with accuracy at or below, 63ft.

Taurus Millenium Pro 745. It's little and reliable (YMMV). Mine is awsome.

Check out the Springfield XD before you take the $$ plunge.
It might be a bit thick for pocketing, but IMO it is a very fine piece. It probably works best for IWB carry. Good luck!!

A while back I tried to find a .45 auto I liked that would work for pocket carry. First I got a Cobra Patriot, at the time the smallest and lightest autoloader. It worked pretty well but I was disapppointed in that it seemed to like 230gr only.

So I got a Glock 36 - this gun was very accurate and reliable with anything I tried. But the trigger was too light and short (in my opinion) for pocket carry.

I finally settled on a Taurus PT145 Mil Pro - it has 10+1 capacity, is reasonably compact and shoots well. But it is just a little too bulky for most pocket carry.

The only gun I know of that might work (but never tried) is the Kahr PM45. To date it is the smallest and lightest, and I bet would fit many pockets. I'd try it but the $800 or so I've seen for it new is a bit much for me - maybe later. I have a PM9 which is a superb pocket carry.

Have you looked at the Colt New Agent?
That is a very well built automatic chambered in .45 Automatic.

I've had the Ultra Carry and the PT-145. Fine pistols, but a bit too much for pocket carry. I haven't seen the PM45, but it seems to be the only viable alternative. For now I carry a PF-9, at least until KelTec decides to quit listening to the girly-men who whine about recoil and make a P4T5...

Another former Ultra CDP owner here. I could not reasonably recommend it for pocket carry although it seemed OK in one of those Kramer T-shirt thing-a-mawhatis.

I've pretty much given up on the holy grail of the .45 'pocket gun' but find myself sometimes waking up staring at the monitor showing STI's "Off Duty" with no recollection of how I got there...

If I ever buy or shoot one I'll report back.
