This is sort of common with guys with single action revolvers chambered in 45 ACP like the Blackhawk convertible. You’re suggesting I feed the cylinder directly from a 45ACP mag? One at a time?
Just got a S&W 45ACP wheelgun and was wondering if a .45 speedstrip will work with it?
That is true. Many earlier Model 625s will not fire reliably without a clip in place and all 625s won't extract without one unless you poke them out with a stick. I have a first year 625-2 that will not fire ACP rounds without clips. Some might but most will not. Finally got it right.
My elderly M25-2 will fire loose rounds but not extract them.
I have READ that SOME of the various 625s have deep chambers and will not headspace loose rounds high enough to fire.
If you buy a 625 just plan on using clips. Without them headspacing is all over the map. If you hate dealing with the clips then buy a different revolver.
If you going to do that you would have been better off with 45 Colt. 45 AR makes almost no sense to me.Or,
Use the 45 Auto Rim cartridge.

Well, I have a 625 and plenty of AR brass so it makes sense to me.
So each to his own, if it float your boat sail with it, but what advantage does 45 Auto Rim have over 45 ACP on moonclips or 45 Colt? 45 ACP on moonclips makes sense for the fast reloads. 45 Colt with its larger case capacity has a lot of versatility as a reloader. I can run my 45 ACP load in my semi-auto or revolver. 45 Auto Rim seems like the worst of both cartridges combine, no moonclip, low case volume.
45 Auto Rim in a 45 ACP revolver always seems like you just put a set of off road tires on a sports car.
