If by favorite, you mean which one do I seem to buy the most, it's IMR 3031. The stuff just seems to be the handiest to have around.

45 ACP Loads

Bullseye competition loads for Colt Gold Cup series 70 Target shooting. Bullseye, 200gr cast Lyman BB sized to .452" dia. or Speer 200gr swc lead. For the S&W 645 , 185Gr cast swc. sized to .451" Loaded with Alliant Blue dot.:fire:+p+ Maximum loading

"If you average 3.5 gns per charge, Clays will let you load 2,000 rounds per pound"

Unfortunately, Clays does NOT come in 1lb jugs, they are like 14oz. It may come in larger quantities, but not 1lb'rs.

I use Unique,W231, Clays, Universal. All under 200gr LSWC's.

WST with 200 gr LSWC. Works for my IPSC loads. I have lots of it and I too am lazy so I won't try something diff till I can't get anymore of it.

Thanks for all the replies.
I didn't expect it to go international but Col Tappiocca gave some input from Switzerland.
I now have some alternative go to powders and my friend has a link to check this post out.

Guy's, I'm the guy Mike is trying to help out. I can't thank you enough for all the info.

Seems I have some things to try !

I'll throw out one I haven't seen yet:

Longshot

I have tried Titegroup, Unique, Universal, and Longshot in my .45 (Taurus PT1911) and it had the best accuracy of the lot.

5.1g of W231 in the 230 LRN works great for me. Excellent accuracy, pretty clean (as much as 231 can!), and is always consistent. It is extremely versatile for me, as I load .380, 9, 40, 44 special, 44 rem mag, and 45LC with it. So far, it has been a one-powder fits all for these calibers...

My .02,
redintex

I don't think I've seen 1 person who uses Ramshot powders for pistol. I used TAC for 223 in my AR and like it. Anyone for Ramshot? My I have only used Unique, Bullseye, HS-7, and HS-6.

Just curious.

I've used Silhouette, True Blue, Zip and Competition in various handguns. I find them all very good for different applications but of the lot, Silhouette is by far, my favorite...as good as it gets in 9MM and excellent in .40 as well. True Blue meters wonderfully and is very accurate but does leave a little yellowish muzzle residue. Zip is very similar to W-231/HP-38 and Competition seems very much akin to WST minus, the black pepper smell.

Titegroup

I shoot Titegroup as I can load 9mm, .40, and .45 with it. I have been a hodgdon man since 1992. I try to keep the numbers down on types of powders as I load for 12 calibers and its a pain to store so many brands/types and keep em all straight.

Quickdraw McGraw,
You're not alone in liking HS-6, it's one of my favorite powders but not in the .45 Auto. I have used and like HS-6, Longshot, Power Pistol, AA#5, Clays and W231 in the .45 Auto and all work but I feel W231 is the best for that caliber. Second in line would be AA#5 considering it was developed specifically for use in the .45 Auto.

I would mention Winchester AutoComp, it's getting great write-ups for use in the 9mm, 38 Super, 40 S&W and .45 Auto.

I've been seeing ads for it. I assume Hodgdon put out loads using it, are they only on the website or are they printed somewhere?

I use exclusively Winchester 231 in my Norinco and Para Ordnance LTC. Home cast 200 grain semi wadcutter with 5.3 gr shoots accurate in both. Hard to beat in my opinion.

good shooting

I was a little surprised to see a very heavy paper full page add for AutoComp at the gun shop that had load data on the back for all 4 calibers. I'm not sure if it's in any of the current load manuals because it's fairly new and even though most of the new manuals have come out over the past year they were probably updated last year or further back. I'm sure the 2009 Hodgdon manual has the data but that's no different than their load data site information.

-EDIT
I just checked the new Lyman 49th Edition and there's no data in any of the 4 calibers mentioned using AutoComp. (like I thought) Actually, the data on the Hodgdon site should hold you over for a while. It is the most current data available.

Quickdraw McGraw,
I had suggested to Rockmup (offline) to check into the Ramshot Pistol Powders. I have only used TAC for .223 & will be trying TAC in .308.
I used Magnum for .270. Ironically Hunter is for .270 yet they don't publish loads for .270 using Hunter. Maybe they have come out with it since I last looked. I like everything about the Ramshot line except for 1 thing. The load data is not as plentiful as it needs to be. I can buy it locally.

Another powder I saw mentioned in another thread was Trail Boss in .45.

I'm not yet comfortable about my understanding of powder burn rates. I've seen where 'Burn Rate' isn't even the correct term, 'Relative Quickness' I think is. Maybe I'll use the right term when I finally feel like I get it.

Good Info
WNTFW

W-231 more years than I will admit. Burns clean and has a low flash. 5.5 gr. pushing 200/230 FMJ or lead. Meters great too. Works for me.
