Not sure where to put this, so I apologize in advance. A friend has a .460 S&W and can't keep the scope from moving in the mounts . . . Leopold optics & he has tried their mounts, Warne mounts, 3 sets of rings (doesn't have room for 4 with the scope he is using.), and friction strips. Any ideas? The only thing I could think to try would be to lap the rings.

Thanks!

I would suggest lapping the rinds. I have a Scope on my S&W 460 Mag with only 2 rings. I am using the Warne all steel rings, I never had a scope move on me, even on my S&W 500 Mag.

I've use Leopold mounts on my .460 and find that they work great. I did lap them prior to use.

Lapping the rings refers to truing the interior bearing surface up so the entire ring engages the tube of the scope. The idea is to have as much surface area of the ring as possible engaging the scope tube to prevent the scope from moving about.

I use this mount from Jack Weigand

I believe he has that base, but due to scope configuration/length, he can only use a max of 3 rings. I loaned him my lapping kit & he's going to try that. Thanks for the info, tho.
