What's the consensus on the 5.11 line of clothing and boots? Is it worth the money, or is it overpriced poser-wear? If I have on a pair of 5.11 pants at a training session, will the sight of 5.11 alone inspire giggles and tauts? (Usually noone giggles until I accidentally kick a magazine downrange.)

I have no idea. I show up at the range wearing $16 Wrangler jeans, a Hawaiian shirt, a garden hat I got from OSH, and Solar Shield polarized sunglasses (the kind that fit over prescription glasses)

Nobody can accuse me of being a poser.

I used to think they were poser pants, but decided to try some. Now they've become regular work pants because they're so comfortable and well made. In my neck of the woods, nobody even knows what 5.11 is, so I don't have to worry about the poser stigma. :D

You'll never see me in head to toe 5.11 gear, but the pants definitely get a thumbs up.

I had some 5-11 pants. They were well constructed and fit well.
The double seat, double knees, and many pockets made them so heavy they dragged off my butt in a few steps. I gave 'em away to a guy of my waist size who likes them and somehow keeps them up.

great stuff, heavy duty cloth and pricey. there are some knock offs which can be more comfortable due to lighter weight fabrics.

My price on 5.11's is about the same for what I can buy the Cabela stuff. I'll order a couple pairs and see what I think. Thanks for the input. :D

I REALLY like the 5.11 pants and shorts.

I have worn them for 3 years or so, since I first heard about them on TFL and THR.

With all the people wearing "cargo-style" pants these days, in my opinion, they blend in well.

 :neener:

I love the pants for winter and the shorts for summer.
They are well constructed and affordable... The elastic waist works well for IWB holsters.
But the best feature for me is the cell phone pocket on the right leg. If I need my phone, I don't have to go searching through a cargo pocket or regular pocket full of other junk, it is very convenient.

If you have a Aldi Foods nearby you might want to checkout the cargo pants they have on sale this week. There $9.99 plus tax.

I own the green.khaki and blue 5.11 pants, also just bought a pair of 5.11 shorts. Great product.

+1

Been wearing them since they were climbing pants. They keep moving the cellphone pocket, though...

The shirts are a little tough to love, though. I prefer the old Royal Robbins shirts, kind of fishing/travel style. But I just got a 5.11 shirt in desert camo that looks like it might work for deer hunting. We'll see.

Yeah, about my only complaint with the pants is that I wish they put one of those on each side to make things easier for us left-handers.

5-11

A Bit Pricey But Tough Fabric. Should Last. For Pocket Carry They Can't Be Beat.comfortable Too.the Slant Rear PocketS Take Some Getting Used To.

Just get some BDU's if you need extra pockets. 511's are overpriced, back pockets are too deep, the strap near the back pocket is cheesy and you'll look like a range commando wannabe.

I have 3 pairs of pants and 2 pairs of shorts. One pair of the pants and both shorts have the Royal Robbins label on them. They are of much better quality than the 2 pairs of pants I bought later with the 5.11 label. The cloth on the older ones is thicker and they feel sturdier overall.

I actually like the 5.11s a little more than the corresponding Cabela's pants. Not to say that the Cabela's offerings aren't good, but I like the cut and feel of the 5.11s a little more. I was wearing the pants on a daily basis at my last job, and wear the shorts quite a bit right now. Having a sturdy belt is a must, though, as has already been stated that the pants can be a bit heavy. I used a good heavy belt with the pants, and use a wilderness instructor belt with the shorts. I developed a bit of a fondness for the shirts as well, but would give those up in a heartbeat to hold on to the pants.

Just in case anyone is interested, Roy Tailor's Uniform Shop in Columbus, OH has 5.11 Trooper boots on closeout for $30.00 a pair. I have no idea if that is a good price or a good boot, but it probably is both.

We call the place Rip-off Roy's because their price on most stuff is sky-high, but when they want to move inventory they pretty much give it away. I got a killer pair of Doc Marten police boots for $20.00 because it was the last pair they had and it just happened to be in my size. Yeah. Sold.

I can give anyone directions who needs them.

Mostly, the 5.11 pants have held up well. But I had a pair where the front snap fell completely apart after a couple of wearings.

It took forever to get them replaced by the manufacturer.

The charcol colored pants seem to fade much more quickly than the green.

Look on the SIG website (not the forum). The SigTac pants are much better than 5.11 IMHO.
