I'm looking to buy bulk 5.56 ammo for my ar. I tried wolf, but it was pretty dirty.

Any sugguestions for a fair deal?

PMC, brass cased boxer primed fairly accurate. It can be found for abour 320$ a case of a thousand.

We prefer "reloaders".;)
Hehe...reloaders are actually absolutely excluded from my comment! I meant the people who say "I will NOT shoot steel cased ammo in my rifle - its just too good and expensive for that/it wears out the ($10) extractor/because the internet said it wrecks your rifle" ;) :)

If steel case wrecks rifles than I'm amazed the Russian military has any guns left! Thats just about all the Russians use.

Try a box before you buy in bulk, but any of the various Barnaul brands (the three little bears, Monarch, et al) have worked well for me. PMC is also good stuff and has the benefit of being brass/boxer primed without being too much more costly. I used to shoot a ton of UAE brass mil-surp and it did great as well, it was about $4.00/20 a few years back, can't find it now, but perhaps it is still somewhat inexpensive (relative to other ammo). I don't know if it is boxer primed because I didn't reload at the time.

:)

I bought a half-case from classic arms last fall - it's UAE stuff and shoots very well and accurate enough for my needs (I'm a plinker & paper-puncher, not a one-hole shooter).

IIRC, it is just under $190 for 500 rounds or under $400/1000.

There may be better deals out there, now, but this was still when it was hard to find any 5.56 - they had it, and I had the cash so I ordered a half-case. Been pleased, so far. Be advised: this is military crimped, so it takes some effort to reload it.

edit: here is the linkhttp://www.classicarms.us/ammunition.htm - the 5.56 is about 1/2 way down the page.

Soviet rifles are designed for steel, so this may be a bit disingenuous.
OTOH, ARs can be finicky; some may digest steel cases OK and others may not.
The may or may not cause trouble with the extractor.
Only the OP can tell if his AR works with steel cases or not.
I have an AR, and will not run steel through it. I don't know if mine can handle it or not and really don't care to tinker with it to find out, so I stick with brass.
I have a WASR 10 as well, and really don't care what cr@p I shove through it. It seems to go "BANG!" on cheapo steel stuff just fine. OTOH, it's an AK.

Well your saving about $100 on a case shooting the steel stuff. After a case or two you can just buy a new bolt and carrier, after 10 a new gun.

Actually the original 7.62x39 and x54 ammo was BRASS cased so they weren't "designed" for steel cased ammo.

A more simple answer is that those Russian calibers have more taper to the case than the 5.56 and its much easier to extract them...

The original 7.62x54R was also made in like 1890.

I buy and shoot a lot of Russian surplus and Russian calibers. Its all steel cased, if they made brass I havn't gotten that spam can yet.

Big +1. And that is a big "IF" you need to buy a new bolt and carrier, or rifle....
