5 classic handguns that every one should shoot at least once in their life?

"Classic" does not mean rare, odd or unobtainable. It means "of enduring interest, quality and style" (among other things) and "serving as a standard or guide."

With this in mind:

1) Colt single Action Army in .45 Colt. Introduced in 1873 and still going strong.

2) Colt 1911 in .45 acp. Introduced in 1911 and more popular than ever.

3) Smith & Wesson Model 19/66. The epitome of the perfect marriage between handgun and cartridge.

4) Smith & Wesson Model 29/629, preferably with 6 or 6.5" barrel. A handgun/cartridge phenomenon that's never been matched.

5). Glock 17. It redefined combat/practical handguns forever.

1. Hi point
2. Jiminez
3. Bryco
4. Davis
5. RG/Rohn

Honorable Mention: Lorcin

Oh.... The question was guns everyone SHOULD shoot? :) (full disclsure, i own 3 hi points)

Pizzapinochie I almost threw the HiPoint in there too. Thought everybody ought to shoot one, they're really not bad. I confess I have a few( carbine is better) and a Jennings J22 also. I've often heard about people that have never shot a HiPoint trash them on looks and the low price. I admit I'm a little bit guilty about that with the Glocks too though.
Back to the question I think everyone should shoot some black powder

1. Early & impractical semi-auto (Borchardt, Broomhandle, Luger, Steyr-Hahn)
2. Howdah (bonus for flint lock and over .75 caliber)
3. S&W Magnum (357/44), becuz there's not enough Colts for 'everyone' to try
4. Browning Hi Power or 1911 or maybe Beretta 92
5. Select fire machine pistol (Scorpion, Berretta 93, G18, TMP/MP9, Micro Uzi)

TCB

I'd say there's too many preferences for us to agree on 5 specific models.

I offer:
1. 1911, They're incredibly ergonomic (to most people with small hands to giant paws). Nice and soft shooting, plenty of punch, and atypically better than average trigger.

2. Glock, pretty much any of them outside the baby Glocks. I find they all shoot pretty similarly. You gotta see what the fuss is about, whether or not you choose to drink the tacti-koolaide is up to you.

3. 4" 38/357 Med. frame DA/SA revolver preferably with adj. sights. S&W 10,64,15,19,66,686 Ruger GP100/six series, Dan Wesson et. al. These are almost just as inherently American as a 1911 and some of my favorite guns to shoot.

4. .22LR pistol 4-6" barrel. Either a S&W K22, or a Ruger or Browning. Theres lots of fun to be had for anyone.

5. Something that starts with "4" and ends with "agnum" or comparable. What can I say? they're a blast (pun intended), and they're a shooting discipline in and of themselves.

1 - Colt 1911 70 series in .45 ACP
2 - Colt Single Action Army in .45 LC
3 - Colt 1851 Navy cap and ball revolver in .36 cal
4 - S&W Model 15, K38 combat Masterpiece in .38 Spl
5 - S&W Model 41 target pistol n .22 LR

Sent from the Andromeda galaxy using Tachyon particles

Smith & Wesson .35 auto
Smith & Wesson .32 auto
Bergmann-Bayard 9mm
Webley & Scott .455 auto
Roth-Steyr 8mm

I can think of some others that should be shot once in a lifetime, but you said 5.

1) A single-action based at least loosely on the Colt 1836 patent. The actual example can be a Colt single-action Army of any generation, a Ruger, or an Italian copy.

2) A Smith & Wesson hand ejector. An 8 oz. M frame 22 from 1902 will do or one of those 50 caliber monstrosities or anything in between.

3) A Colt double action based on the old 1908 patent. Anything from a Bankers Special to a Python counts.

4) A 1911--Anybody's.

I don't know what the fifth one would be. Maybe a Luger, a Broomhandle, or a Colt Woodsman, but anyone concerned with the history of handguns and who loves them will want to know enough about any of these four basic types, even if he chooses to be a heretic and not like them.

Ok guys so in a debate recently I was asked to name 5 classic handguns that everyone should shoot at least once so I ask you guys what are your 5
1.1911
2.Hi Power
3.Beretta 92
4.luger
5.smith and wesson model 10

I would delete the 92 and insert the Walther PPK but that is just my opinion and worth every penny you paid for it.

My Top 5 Classics

#1 1895 Nagant
#2 Colt SAA 45 LC
#3 Model 1911A1 45ACP
#4 Luger P08
#5 S & W Combat Magnum
None of these true classics in any particular order.

where did all the years go , ? can't believe poly guns could be called Classic , but then again I saw an AMC Pacer with a collector plate on it :what:..
my Classic list would be :
S&W K frame 357mag
Ruger BlackHawk 44mag
Colt SA 45LC
1911 45acp
Ruger standard 22lr

Colt 1911
Hipower in 9mm
Ruger Mk2 in .22 lr
Smith and Wesson 686
Makarov of any flavor

1) Colt hogleg in .45 Colt
2) Broomhandle Mauser/or a Luger. Either one
3) an early Colt 1911
4) Colt Python.
5) Colt Woodsman

Colt Walker with 60 Grain Charge (fire shoots out feet from the barrel)
1911
S&W ,357 mine is a Model 65
Ruger Single Action in .45 Long Colt
Beretta 92F (didn't think I would like it... Loved it)

Can't restrict it to only five without doing grave injustice to some:

1) Colt Walker (or replica)
2) Colt Peacemaker (or replica)
3) S&W Schofield (or replica)
4) Broom-handle Mauser
5) P-08 Luger
6) 1911
7) Browning HiPower
8) Walther P-38
9) SIG P226
10) Glock 17

These have each commercially successfully introduced all the features that we all know and love today. Everything we have now are minor improvements, tweaks, and hybridization of these features.

IMHO what we've missed so far is the sliding 1911 trigger mated to the SIG/Glock simplified barrel/slide setup.
