I have seeen that wolff springs (http://www.gunsprings.com) carries +5% and +10% magazine springs for many popular semiautos.

If a +10% spring exists, why would anyone buy the +5%? I am under the impression that a heavier spring is always better in this case. Am I missing something?

Thank you,
Synapse.

I think for most people the +5% springs are the best, but if you have a pistol with really high slide velocity such as an Officer's model shooting +P ammo, then the +10% springs might improve feed reliability.

I doubt a heavier spring is always better. If it's heavy enough, it will significantly retard the motion of the slide, especially with a full mag.

Besides, there's more to mag reliability than springs (which do matter). Wilsons were undersprung for years and still ran great. (The springs I just got from them are much stronger than the old kind.)

For the 45ACP 1911 I believe the 5% springs are for the 8 round mags, and the 10% are for the 7 round mags only. I think it's simply a matter of what will fit with the extra round.

I bought six +10 springs a few years ago for my glock magazines, and the ones that were used are still going strong.

I bought a couple +10's that I planned on putting in a my 8 round Shooting Star .45 magazines, and they kept pushing the follower out. They are just to powerful for 1911 magazines. I know nothing of the +5's, so I can't form an opinion.

The +10's are great for Glock magazines.
