In the shadows.
I just bought a full size wittness 10 mm with the steel frame and the wonder finish. This is my first experience with this platform, and I have to say, I am really impressed with this gun! I just ordered two magazines from EAA. and a Wolff calibration spring set from Wolff. Does anyone know of another source for magazines and parts for the Wittness line? I found holsters available at Cen Tec, but I need to find a leather basket weave duty holster as well. Any help there?

If you want Witness mags, unfortunately you have to pretty much get them through EAA, and their customer service bites.

You'll want to up the recoil spring to about 20 lbs.

I just bought one today myself, I also have a Witness compact and it is one of my favorite handguns.

The Wolff calibration spring pack has recoil springs up to 22# for this gun. The factory spring is listed as a 14#. It was obvious to me that it was undersprung when I first fired it. The empties traveled about 30'! I don't know why they use the same recoil spring in these as the .40. Sounds like they think one weight fits all.

I ditched my 10mm's a long time ago because I couldn't afford to buy all the different ammo I was shooting. Now I can, and I was thinking about a new 10mm. The Witness is attractive due to the low price, but I've no experience with them. I had a Glock 20 many years ago, and I didn't like it very much. I had a Delta Elite that was o.k., but for me 1911's usually become more trouble than I'm willing to tolerate (that's just my feeling though). Is there anyting else? Recommendations anyone?

Lots of Witness stuff at www.savvysurvivor.com . I ordered a couple of 10mm mags from them this weekend and look forward to their arrival. The guy who runs savvysurvivor posts over at the czforum.com. Enter the forum, then select "CZ Clone Club". His username is xOSIx. Good Witness info on that forum. I got a .45 acp conversion for my full-size Witness 10mm from Brownell's when they were closing them out for $135. That was a deal. This is also my first 10mm and it's been good so far. I also upped the recoil spring to 20 pounds (maybe 22?). Good luck.

I also have a 10mm Witness. Its a good gun, but I need to do some wrist stregnthening exercises to get it to stop failing to feed. I third the 20# spring, but just make sure you can pull the slide back afterwards. Its not easy.

Oh, I would avoid doing anything with EAA. People that want $40 for a neutered mag are a little too proud of their stuff in my book.:scrutiny:

Moparmike,
The 10rd mags for the Wittness 10mm are available for $25 on the EAA web site. I've looked at the Savy Suvivor site------$30 for the 10rd and $75 for the hicaps------10 rounders will do me just fine for the price! Never felt undergunned with an 8rd mag in a 1911.

10mm Witness Compact

I purchased a 10mm compact witness with a blue finish about a month ago. I liked the idea of a small compact powerhouse. I picked up some compact mags also from a different store that same day for a steal.

I have replaced the mag springs with wolff +5% springs, funny part was that the three Tanfoglio mag springs were all different length, not even close to one another????

I also wanted to replace the recoil spring, but in the compact it is a double spring arrangement. It seems like a very weak one at that. SOooo ... I am going to test out a pair of witness .40 compact springs at 20 and 22# to see if the gun will function reliably. We will see ....

A interesting combo was brought to my attention by a gentleman at the czclone club, you can use the fullsize mags (standard or nuetered) in the compact with a spacer that is used with polymer .45 fullsize. This gives you a full length grip, 10mm hicap capable and the shortened slide/barrel length. THAT WOULD BE FUN !!!!!!

I am experiencing some wear in the blue finish where the ejected brass is tinking off the slide on extraction. I hope your Wonder finish holds up well.

But for under $300 ... I have no complaints so far.

I will post the recoil spring test tomorrow, going to the range tonight.
