.50 Beowulf: question

What's the best way the clean the bore of this beast? All the .50(bmg) kits are way too long and the pistol kits (.50AE, 500 S&W) are too short. Is there a shotgun bore snake, or something, that would be a good fit? Like 20ga maybe?

Why has Alexander Arms (purposefully, it seems) left the dust cover off the upper? I haven't seen one yet with one... even out in use. I like dust covers... any reason I shouldn't fit one?

I'm sure I have more questions... but that's all that comes to mind for now..

Buy some .50 BMG copper brushes at $1 a piece and use a standard rifle cleaning rod. The brushes are easy finds at most gun show or on-line surplus stores

duh. Of course... buy .50 brushes and jags and use my regular rod--

How 'bout that "Otis" kit thing? It claims to go up to .50 but looking at it in the packaging, I don't see anything in there that looks that big... any experience anyone?
I'm looking for something for field cleaning too.. like bore-snake or Otis kit.

Otis makes one for the .50BMG. Again it would be too long, but it's a pretty moot point considering the flex of the "rod".

I've heard of guys using shotgun kits on the Beowulf, I think it was 20 ga. Actually I just bought a Boresnake for mine and it works great, but I have one for all of my rifles/pistols. It comes marked .50/.54 and the first couple pulls were VERY tight coming through but did pull through fine.

I am going off memory here, but when I had my .458 Socom upper made, I asked about the dust cover and I think he told me that he machined that opening tol make it as large as possible which removed the device that kept the dust covered closed. So, after his first few prototypes, he just started using upper receivers without a dust cover since it wasn't functional anyway.
You don't need anything special to clean the bore. And, you don't need anything that says .50 on it. This isn't a complex operation. Use a .45 brush with a patch wrapped around it. If it is loose, use two patches. When you are just using patches and a jag, use a bigger patch.
