4000 rounds of .22lr makes a .50 cal can about 2/3 full, so probably 6000 rounds to fill.

I dont shoot 12ga much but just did inventory/ consolidation of my birdshot. A TALL 50 can will hold exactly 390 rounds of 12ga 2.75" if you stack em just right.
