New book on Indian guns with an interesting twist

John Baldwin has just released the fifth of his series of books on Early American Artistry. Ahem, another way of saying weapons of the Indians. Anyway, this newest one is on Indian Trade Guns, Spears & Shields.

He starts out with the early flintlocks and moves into the the converted percussions and percussion guns, cartridge and repeaters and a whole bunch of spears and shields (could use more color photography of the shields).

In his final chapter, he has survey of modern Indians and the guns of their choice.

I would have expected to see the .30-.30 in there in several places. My county is about 25% native american, and almost every adult male, NA or not, has a lever action .30-.30.

Poodleshooter - Brass tacks and rawhide on an AR. Perhaps we should also throw in porcupine quillwork or beads on some of that rawhide too? Certainly makes the AR-15 type rifle look less lethal and more "frontier" in nature.

Jim, you're right. The selection of ammunition and guns isn't at all surprising. Seeing that info with the pics in a book that suppose to be about guns a century old is! It was a wonderfully humorous twist by the author.
