The latest Shotgun News carries an ad for a 1911 type pistol made by Guncrafter Industries in Huntsville, AR. It's takes a new .50 caliber round called the .50GI. The ad uses the slogan, "Controllable Big Bore Power!"
The case looks as long as a standard .45 ACP, but has a longer bullet than the .45 ACP HP in the photo. Looks interesting and reminds me of a story...

Supposedly someone asked a grizzled old lawman, a Texas Ranger I think,
"Why do you carry that old .45 pistol all the time."
His answer,
"They don't make a .50!"

I guess that retort may now be inoperative!

(I know, I know the .50AE has been around for a while. It wasn't available in a 1911 though, was it?)

It was availabe in the LAR Grizzly, which was basically a huge 1911.

ROFL Sven....:D

Seriously a .50 1911 sounds cool to me! A big heavy slow moving high energy (for a non-magnum handgun) bullet. Maybe in the range of 900-1050 fps or so??? Six round magazine? 250-300gr. bullets??? 1911 trigger? I'm sold!

Hmmmmm.... 250 grain bullet at 500 to 650 feet per second? Been there, done that in IPSC competition. 255 grain LSWC at 710 feet per second out of a five inch barreled 1911, standard barrel and brass, no over pressure signs, used a 17 pound recoil spring, brass barely made it 5 feet from the gun.

I heard it as:
"Why do you carry a .45 Colt?"
"Cuz they don't make a .46 Colt".

:p

I`ve been kicking this idea around for ever. A .50 loaded to .45+P or mid range 10mm level and *no more*,that could be chambered in a Commander or Glock 19 sized package would IMO be out-freakin-standing! Marcus

You'd have to widen the frame to accept a .50 cal magazine.

You could do it in a Glack then they already have a wide frame available.

I can see it now...

NEW for 2004 - The Glock High Road Special chambered in .50GAP !

:neener: :what: :neener: :what: :neener:

I`d think a ".50 ACP" would easily fit in an unaltered wide body frame like a Para no? Marcus
