Hey folks,
Hope everyone's feeling good.
I'm a simple guy but I like nice things and can appreciate quality . I've got a lot of knives, way more than I'll ever need but I don't have a higher end folder, I do have a 940 Osbourne & a cla (benchmade automatic) - those would be the nicest folding knives I own. My wife is looking for a gift for me and there's not much I need and she said please not a gun, figure a nice knife could scratch the itch a little .
I want to keep it under $500 but would like to get the most I can for that . considered a sabenza and I like them, also kind of like the microtechs, not sure about their quality though.
So for conversations sake, if you had $500 to blow on a folder, what would you get? I'm open to any style.

Thanks

My go-to for a tactical every day folder is the Emerson Commander that I was issued- it can be had for about half of your limit, and is faster to get into action than an automatic due to the wave feature. Also without some of the legal issues that MAY come up some places as it applies to legality that an auto may bring.

What have you got? Does your wife like them?
Nothing too fancy, Chicago cutlery set with a few henckles knives for one's I use a lot and a few others . the wife is ok with what we've got, I keep them sharp.

The knife I'm looking to buy is my anniversary present, not looking for something for the house. I'll get good kitchen knives eventually but not this time. I do want to get a nice kitchen knife for thin slicing beef (for jerky), currently I use a tomato knife, it's ok but it lacks the control of a straight edge- I make jerky every weekend so a good quality slicing knife is on my radar but I don't need to justify that purchase with an occasion.

I'm interested in this one-

Like the style and shape but never saw one personally. I've got a Spartan blades "ares" fixed blade knife I've had for years and I can say that I think their quality is extremely good unless somethings changed . anyone got a Spartan blades folder they can talk about?

I probably should have started this thread by summoning the resident knife guy, @hso - what do ya think?

On the Emerson, what is the hook like thing on the back of the blade? Bottle opener? All these suggestions got me thinking I need another knife.

The hook on the Emerson grabs the seam at the top of your pocket. That in turn opens the blade for you as it comes out of the pocket.

The other part is to assist the opening of the blade if the knife is already in your hand.

Kershaw started using it also.

Thanks MK. I was looking at that on their web site. Almost ordered one. Maybe when I get back from my trip to VA. It might work to open a beer.

I would buy a Kershaw "Emerson" CQC-6K, a matching trainer, a pair of forearm sleeves, and the rest on Martial Blade Concepts training.

Silly me, was thinking bottle opener. Sometimes you need to deploy quickly for tactical openings. HSO is the one who mentioned to me I think about the Chris Reeves knive sebenza. On a similar post I made. Lots of good input here.
