Hey all - I've been reloading pistol calibers on the 550B forever, finally decided to load 223 on it. I ordered the 223 kit and am getting everything set up, but I'm having a heck of a time with the powder die. I took one of the powder dies I already had and put the 223 insert in it, but it's like it can't unscrew far enough; even when the die is *barely* screwed into the toolhead, it's slightly crushing the shoulder. When it's even comfortably down into the toolhead, it makes the shoulder a 90 degree bend.

I'm sure I'm being an idiot here - is there a separate powder die I should have ordered for rifle??

Thanks all!!

Check the powder dies you have for length.....just in case. Make sure the insert/die are 100% clean, moving freely.

I'm using a standard Dillon powder die and a standard Dillon powder .223 insert and not having an issue. Is in possible the insert is hanging up on something? Is the powder bar fully actuating? Does everything feel smooth? Where in the downstroke is it crushing??

Also, check to ensure your shellplate isn't too loose and your using the right locater buttons, IF the case is misaligned it can get hung up.

Hey Chuck - many thanks for your kind reply. I went back to the shop to check these things and realized I HAD SOMEHOW MIXED UP THE .45ACP POWDER INSERT INSTEAD OF .223. What an idiot. Once I got that straightened out she worked absolutely like a charm - until I added the powder........I'm just going to start a new thread for that incredibly stupid mistake :)

Thank you very much!

The exterior section is the Powder Die. The interior part is called the Powder Funnel.

Most everyone simply leaves the powder funnel in the Tool Head with the dies when not in use. As long as the tool head stays upright, it all stays together.

Glad you got it worked out.
