First off I'll admit I don't know much about revolvers but is it possible to purchase a replacement barrel for a S&W 586 and have them install it?

I have found a 586 is good shape the only problem is that someone buggered up the barrel on it and tried to shorten it. It isn't square and looks terrible but that is the only drawback to the gun.

Appreciate any info that you can pass on to me.

If it can be done anyone know a ballpark figure of what it might cost?

S&W

Contact S&W first. Then do a search for gunsmiths that cater to PPC, or other shooting games. You might get lucky and find a old take off barrel from a firm that installs custom barrels.
I can't guess what breakfast will cost next week, let alone a rebarrel job.

Ifin ya like the length it is have a smith square it up & crown it , install site !!

Ifin ya gotta go with another barrel it`ll be more economical to look futher , unless ya can get this revolver "I think I stole it" cheap .

S&W just swapped a barrel on my 586 from a 6" to a 4". They charged $60 for the swap, I supplied the barrel. I got around the shipping costs by taking advantage or the recall for early x86 guns. While it was there I had them do some other work too.
